The Rose Theatre
Brampton, Ontario
January 10, 2009

I’d never heard of Amy Sky before this night at the Rose Theatre in Brampton which by the way is a beautiful building with a very easily irritated audience.  I had heard of Marc Jordan as a big Canadian songwriter but couldn’t even tell you what tunes he was involved with.  We met them before the show in the “green room” with a couple contest winners from 101.5 Erin Radio.  I recently hooked up with the Saturday morning DJ, Ronia Michael and she immediately asked me if I’d come out and shoot this show for her.  I punched in Amy Sky and Marc Jordan online to check out their music and despite my musical tastes being much heavier than the delicate glass of wine these guys were serving up, I thought I’d take a drink anyway.  Why not?  Marc Jordan is a legend in some circles and Amy Sky has made quite the name for herself with her soft, sultry yet beautifully powerful voice and positive lyrical content.  Not to mention, she’s damn hot and a total sweetheart!

Marc was hilarious.  A super nice guy in the green room, he casually joked around while offering us to their buffet spread and posing for pics.  I don’t know if he should have just put the guitar down and fired up a stand-up comedy routine with all the jokes he was cracking and F-bomb dropping on this very stuffy and intolerant crowd.  He sang a whack of songs he’d written for the likes of Rod Stewart, Cher, Amanda Marshall and Molly Johnson with his soft, soothing , yet deep resonating voice while playing acoustic guitar and a short stint at the grand piano off to the side.  Even though this is not the typical kind of show the Rebel Reviewer finds himself at, it was nice to open my fuckin eyes and take a look around for a change.

The theatre was packed and I couldn’t just sit and shoot the band because the crowd was constantly complaining that there was a guy crouched down at the front of the stage taking photos of the band.  It’s a fuckin concert people!!!!  There is often MEDIA there.  Photographers, writers, you know… Rebel Reviewers!!!!  As I was told by Marc himself, I had the run of the place: to quote him when I asked what rules he had for me to follow when it comes to photography, he insisted “there are no rules, you can shoot from anywhere.  You can shoot from the stage if you want.  You can roll around on the stage right in front of us if you want”.  If I didn’t know he was joking I could have REALLY screwed with that audience and rolled around at the front of the stage just for fun!
