So my one Buddy is this HUGE Black Crowes fan. In
particular he's a Chris Robinson fan. Obsessed. Got the New Earth
Mud CD the day it came out and I think he still plays it at least twice a
day. He wanted me there cuz he wanted his own shots of Chris. We got
to Lee's Palace (pffft... Palace my ass) and pulled up some pretty nice seats. Chris is the kind of guy who
likes people shooting the show, recording, all this good stuff. What the
fuck does he care? He's stinking rich, he's got a hot babe for a wife and
his "parents-in-law" are Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. He could
quit playing today and live like a king off the money Goldie and Kurt
accidentally lose every day. Never mind the fact that his wife, Kate
Hudson, is making movies, like, twelve times a year. Who gives a fuck
about that shit though right? The show. Chris comes out all casual and shit, picks up a
Stratocaster and starts given 'er.
Rest of the band kicks in and we're hearing some of the best rock n blues you're gonna hear. Awesome shit. After a while other guys start stepping on stage to jam with him. Kelly Hoppe from Big Sugar jumps in and makes like he's been in the band for years. Jams a bunch of tunes on his harp. The guys a fuckin genius with that shit. Buddy from Lenny Kravitz's band jumps in there and solos his way through a few tunes on his Gibson SG. Couldn't get a good shot of him cuz there were too many guys on stage and he had to stand way off to the side out of the light. No light. No picture. Trust me. He was fuckin good too. Anyway... we drank a bunch of beer. I shot a bunch of shots. And then we went home quite satisfied that we'd just witnessed one of the best displays of musicianship we'd seen in a long time. Definitely bumped Chris up MY list a few notches.
