London, Ontario - The Embassy - Summer '97
| Well this show was totally unexpected. I got there ready to shoot the Misfits and ended up shooting a legend as well. The Embassy was a fun place to shoot. For one of the shittiest bars in London, they got the best bands through there. I was house photographer for the summer of '97 so whatever came, I went and shot just because I could. Security would make sure I had the best shootin spot in the house. This night I came strolling in, the bar wench reeled me in and excitedly told me that "Marky Ramone was here"... I was like... WHY? She told me he just showed up out of the blue and asked if he could open for the Misfits. I'd think this is pretty well unheard of. A fucking legend shows up at your bar and asks to be added to the bill FOR NOTHING. |
Of course, there's no advertising so it isn't going to bring any extra customers other than what the Misfits, a legend in their own rights, would bring in. So the Embassy politely turned him down and told him to fuckin beat it. NOT. AS IF. The show was awesome. The Intruders were extremely young, extremely tight and heavy, and really good guys to boot. No egos floating around that room. I had a couple pints with the bass player after the show and he told me how the whole Intruders thing came to be. Good guy. Marky stayed hidden so I guess there was ONE ego somewhere! Can't blame him though.. hardly anybody knew he was gonna be there and if they did, he probably woulda been mobbed. I think some other band actually opened up before Marky but I can't even remember who the fuck they were!! |
