Many of you are saying to yourself... WHO?  Yeah well this is the guy who made so many cool tunes back in the early to mid 90's with a little wee band called The Black Crowes.  Now you know who I'm talking about?  The last time I was in "the Palace" (what a fuckin oxymoron that is!!!) was to see Rich's brother Chris Robinson. So, I remembered from the last time I was in Lee's Palace that they had the worst fuckin lighting rig I've ever seen for a good size bar.  Cheap fuckers.  Not only that, the few lights they do have, aren't set up worth a shit.  Thank god there was one light that beamed off Rich or I wouldn't have gotten a single shot worth looking at. I WOULD have pics of Gordie Johnson, ex Big Sugar and Grady lead man, but I think his right foot was the only thing with any amount of light on it.  Damn... shoulda got a shot of his boot!!!   Anyway, Gordie was playing a beautiful Gibson bass that looked a lot like the one his ex bass player for Big Sugar, Gary Lowe, used to play on a regular basis.  Gary was at the show, so I went over to say hi.  I caught him in the middle of rolling a nice gagger, gave him a few pics and yapped a bit about his new band Truths And Rights.  Normally, I woulda been all over the opportunity to partake in a religious ceremony with a Rastafarian but I can't smoke anymore so when he offered to step out back I had to decline.

Rich played a great show.  I'd only heard a few tunes from his new album, "Paper", but it was so Crowe sounding that it instantly hooked me.  More so than his brother Chris' solo efforts with New Earth Mud. Rich looked quite confident at the mike and treated us to a shitload of great bluesy rock n roll music.  How else can you describe a three piece band with no extra crap in the background?  A killer drummer, Joe Travers, smokin bassist and more guitars than you can shake a fuckin stick at. That to me, my friends, is fuckin Rock n Roll plain and simple.  But beautifully plain and simple.  Intricately plain and simple.  Does that make sense?  All three of these musicians were phenomenal.  They just make it LOOK simple.  Put em together and you got some seriously tight shit.  When my Black Crowes addicted buddy offered me the ticket and asked if I'd shoot the show for him, I jumped at it.  I hooked up with Gordie for a minute after the show to see what his plans for the future were.  He told me he's got an album on the way and he'll be back.   We haven't heard the end from this boy by a long shot.  Of course with all the asshole rumours about the Black Crowes getting back together, we may just see Gordie joining them for a tour.  He didn't say that though!!!!  I don't wanna be starting any rumours here!!!!!  This is NOT a fuckin gossip column!!!!  FUCK THAT.
